On again off again

Moonrise

We've had some of the most outrageously beautiful nights. This was our last full moon. When, you might ask? Not sure. Time doesn't seem linear these days. A week will drag by, followed by another that's past in the blink of an eye. Or maybe that's just the crazy talking. Smile.

The image below had some strange interaction between the moon and the phone, but you can also see the stars in it if you look closely. We take these on our "last walks" with Jasper after dinner.

Moon/Camera interplay
While dark by then (7p or so), the days are quite noticeably longer now. Days are also, in general, warmer. We were in the mid 40's today, and look to be similar for the next few days.

Oh Captain my Captain. . .

And Jasper my Jasper. A reference to Captain my Captain. I had a birthday last week. John had an image of Jasper made by an artist, using scratch board. I'm sorry for the glare on the glass. But if you look closely, you can see the minute detail of the fur. This was a crier for sure. Very typical of John to give me something so spot on.

And in the meantime, we are having work done on the interior of the house (always an interesting experience), and I have been doing more clay work in the studio. And metal work as well. I have been terrible about taking photographs. . .I'll get better. And I need to improve my photo booth. It's also my glaze booth, so things get a little confused, to say nothing of dirty.

Greenware
Two firings later

Last week I made 3 tall vases. I've decided the tall thin vase is not only a useful thing to have around to give as gifts, but makes for a pretty cool small canvas. So here's the green ware version of my Applique Bud Vase. Dried but not fired at all. I like the proportions of it. I often end up feeling like the width/height ratio is too large (in other words, things aren't quite tall enough) but I like this one.

Vase 2, bisque

A few other small projects. Vase #2 is ongoing. It's unusually shaped, but I think will lend itself well to tall arrangements. I'm using underglazes to decorate it with one side naturalistic drawings and the other more mechanistic ones. I'd like to say that it's commentary on Nature vs Man, but it's probably not. Just a fun think to mess around with. It still needs a final firing and glaze. So I can still screw it up!

Two other fun projects that are finished now. One is a Porcelain sugar bowl that looks sweetly (ha) like sugar itself.

The other is an enameling project. Darn. I love enameling. After selling it and teaching it for 15 years, I'm really pretty good at it. Fewer failures than in clay. Yay.

Anyway, this is a practical project. I wanted a Not Ugly pill box, and found a plastic liner on Etsy that turns an Altoids type tin into a pill box. What a boon for the senior set! So I made a copy plate to enamel to the top of it, enameled it, then made two brass screw heads (one amelthyst, one a leaping bunny) to attach the enameled lid to the top of the box. Very Very Fun.
